Actually, Tomb of the Primeval Kings has henchmen. Two each of Zaishen Warrior, Archer, Healer and Mage. Not the greatest henchmen, probably, but good enough to let me (not the best player in the world) nearly clear the second level (didn't pull far enough and a patrol showed up) with non-*way Heroes (Dunkoro doing mostly Heals with a little Prot, Olias as a basic MM, and Melonni as a death machine). They've been there longer than the wiki has history for the page (so early '07).

That would take very little resources to implement and wouldn't call it "something pretty awesome" anyway.
"something pretty awesome" would be a new elite area or a new/revamped pvp format.

Like there were alot of players in outposts LF pugs before those changes?
EDIT: I thought the HoM rewards calculator already reserved our names for GW2.

That would be pretty neat. Seeing as having seven hero teams is going to allow us to face roll all content. Would be nice if they update the difficulty when you use more than three heroes.

WOLF!!
but really it would be nice IF they actually got something accomplished in the timeframe they have allotted thmeselves--not that would be something awesome....or to implement it without having to do 7billions bug fixes......
(though I am sure some will say actually getting that pvp update or dervish update that has been promised would be nice too)...
not holding my breath.

Yeah...that'd be because I'm not paying enough attention. I meant to type ToA, referring to the places accessible there from. Thanks for the catch.
The general point stands, however!

LOL didnt we just get the PvP update? GvG is the only PvP that exists right?
/sarcasm
In all fairness, those issues are supposed to be worked on seperately. Although the exact nature to how this is done remains elusive.

Agree. Because , considering most players did finish titles , etc , simply adding 7 heroes wouldn't do much. I mean , it would be fun for 2 hours but after all was tested , there would be nothing left....
I mean , the only interest i see there is to be able to do DoA , UW , FoW ( urgoz /deep eventually ) alone , but apart of that.....

This.
The obvious reason for implementing this update is the fact that, once GW2 is out and the GW1 servers start to empty of players, you'll practically NEED the option of 7 heroes to do some areas, as PuG options will go from slim to none.
Honestly, it's one of the only ways to keep the game viable for players who have come late to the fun, and will not be ready to leave GW1 behind when GW2 comes along.

I wish people would quit repeating this BS...
EIGHT PLAYERS with 24 PvE skills will still steamroll all content.
All seven heroes will do is make content possible when humans aren't available, convenient, or desirable.
And it's a moot question anyway.

Yea... uh, id far rather have 7 hero teams, devish update, paragon update, and any more planned skill updates. We've got plenty of content and weapon skins in the game already, and although im not against adding more, Id rather them spend their time on the stuff that improves replayability.

apart from that...VQ's, Cartography, Dungeons, etc. You are also forgetting that this will be an immense boon for people that start playing GW2 but havent played GW1 and decide to try it out because they want some of the cool rewards from GW1 in GW2. Also, this will just be plain fun for build designing. You will be able to do off the wall builds that could end up really great but you just were never able to convince friends to roll a weird build idea. Heroes don't complain about their roles either. All in all I would say it has a ton of beneficial applications. I don't see any drawbacks either because it will NEVER limit how much time I spend with friends in game.

Thats your personal opinion. I'm guessing based on 2 factors:
1. ANET wants to get things that bridge GW1 and GW2 out of the way
2. ANET employees acting on their own whims (which is what he is doing) have shown a very broad definition of words like "awesome", "cool", and "special" over the years

To answer the original question - the early part of next year. There's something pretty awesome going into that build in addition to the Hero / Embark Beach stuff along with some other improvements to the game.
|
He didn't say "in addition to 7 heroes", he said "in addition to hero stuff." That could be inclusive of AI and/or other changes like formations if they happened. The "something pretty awesome" though is NOT directly related to heroes, because it's not part of "hero stuff."
I also doubt it's new content per say (unless you count something like zquests as content), I don't see why they would start talking about that significantly ahead of it being released. Seems more likely to be something systemic that would require explanation.

early next year, aka sometime in 2013. Going by how "soon" the derv update has come, and how "every other month" skill updates, with "previews" the month before. I love this game, but anet needs to just shut their mouth, no one trusts any timeline they give anymore.

You're not one of those that writes "love the derv changes" on every wiki game update discussion page are you?
I've experienced probably one of the worst companies when it comes to development speed and timeliness, so I can appreciate ANet for what they are. I've also experienced ANet when GW was their primary focus so that also adds appreciation.
----------------------------------------------------
Just thinking about the "other game improvements" part. Since Embark Beach has to do with party searching and forming can we assume that the party search window we have will be revised in addition to that? What I'm getting at is... We all know that an auction house won't be added to GW. Currently TRADE listing is part of the party search window in a very limited fashion. If that window were to be revised with the Beach addition, can we hope and/or speculate that improvement to the Trade listing portion also be part of it?

Oooooh! A good point, thoughtfully raised. And a very exciting possibility! Second to an auction house would certainly be some kind of "universal" trade channel...

Basically repeating myself, but while your idea would be helpful, it is clearly related to Embark Beach stuff. This is something OTHER than that.
Not to mention, we wouldn't need embark beach if party search was somehow universal - that's the point of the place, a central meeting spot.

This was exactly my question. Early next year means nothing because for anet it could possibly mean June.
